Solar Energy Becomes The Focus Point

How to do we make best use of naturally available sources of power? The answer to this was available on the premises of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) when it conducted a workshop.
Student Solar Ambassador Workshop the educational institutions premises also marked the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The workshop was the result of joint effort by SRMIST and IIT-Bombay as a part of Unnat Bharat Abhyan.
Vice chancellor of SRMIST Sandeep Sancheti was the chief guest and District Education Officer (Chengelpet) A. Prabhakar was the guest of honour for the event.
Workshop, the seed concept of Gandhi Global Solar Yatra was aimed at sensitizing the young generations and over 1,000 students from 13 schools were given hands on training on how to assemble a solar study lamp. Students also took a pledge of non-violence towards environment.
Associate Director (Campus Life) of SRMIST V. Thirumurugan said objective was to familiarise the students on how to harness natural sources of power like solar energy. Sandeep Sancheti said living a healthy life is the most important thing in life.
Keeping the surroundings clean for that is a must, he said. He said the Chancellor of SRMIST supported this drive so that children from underprivileged sections will stand to benefit. They who donot have access to electricity will have a chance to utilise solar lamps.
Prabhakar said Tamil Nadu is second in terms of education in India and the students here are excelling in all aspects of life.
‘They give importance to their passion and this makes them more successful.’ He also congratulated SRMIST for ensuring the students have access to quality education. Talks on climate change and solar photovoltaic systems were also held on the occasion.
