Swachh Bharat Abhiyan or Swachh Mission is a national wide campaign in India for the period 2014 to 2019 that aims to scrub up the streets, roads and infrastructure of India’s cities, town and rural areas. In 2017, the national sanitation coverage rose to 65% from 38.7% on Oct 2, 2014 before the start of the campaign. It was 90% in August 2018. The cities and towns which have been declared ODF stood at 22 per cent and the urban wards which have achieved 100 per cent door-to-door solid waste collection stood at 50 per cent. The Swachh Bharat Mission of urban areas aims to cover almost 1.04 crore households in order to provide them 2.6 lakhs of public toilets, 2.5 lakhs of community toilets together with the solid waste management in every town.
In light of this mission and to make public aware about cleanliness, Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board organized a campaign – “Run Gwalior Fun” a 5km run on Sunday in Gwalior and nearby areas like Morena. The campaign started from Nagar Nigam Bal Bhavan. About 300 people participated in this campaign. The green signal to begin this campaign was given by Dr O.N Kaul and Dr Prakhashveer Arya. They shared their concerns on use of polyethylene and garbage disposal with the public.
Different organizations and Educational Institution also participate in Run Gwalior Run. But solely running campaign for cleanliness won’t work unless we implement these smart cleanliness practices in our day to day life.
Swachh Bharat doesn’t just benefits cleanliness of streets and avenues, it benefits in hygiene awareness, economic process and individual productivity. The Swachh Bharat mission has had a positive impact on overall growth of India.
