Onam Celebrations at Hindustan University

Ponnonam / Onam 2017 was celebrated by the Hindustan Group of Institution as a part of its Golden Jubilee Year celebrations at Hindustan University, Bay Range Campus, Padur, Chennai. This auspicious event commenced with a prayer and was followed by an invocation dance.

The famous singer and cine actor Vijay Yesudas was the chief guest of the function.

Elizabeth Verghese, chairperson, Hindustan Group of Institution, Aby Sam, director, Susan Marthandam, director – HCAS, Pon Ramalingam, registrar, deputy directors, HODs, HGI staff and students participated.

The lighting of the tradition lamp was done by the chief guest, chairperson and directors.

Elizabeth Verghese in her inaugural address wished the audience a very happy and prosperous Onam. She conveyed the Onam message to the younger generation and asked them to sustain the traditions and culture without being carried away in the virtual world.

This was followed by a video presentation on Onam. Thiruvathirakali, Chendamelam and Vallamkali performed by the students were part of the festivities.

In the Onam message delivered by the chief guest, he congratulated the Hindustan fraternity for organizing a such an extravagant program.  He appreciated the efforts of students for their high spirits in showcasing their talents. He later enthralled the crowd by his wonderful song performance.

Aby Sam delivered the special address where he recollected his childhood of Onam and shared his thoughts on values and rich heritage of Onam. The cultural events followed which included cinematic dance, solo dance, solo and group song and fusion dance by enthusiastic students of the Hindustan Group. Onam sadya, a vegetarian banquet was served by the students.
