HCAS Sports Day

The Hindustan College of Arts and Science celebrated its sports day last March 7, Thursday 2019 in its school premises. Mr. C. V. Sunny, a former Indian national basketball team captain and manager of Indian Bank was the Chief Guest. The overall championship trophy was backed by Pegasus house and Phoenix house won the runner up.
The Chief Guest Mr.C.V.Sunny, spoke briefly saying he was discussing about basketball to the Director Dr.Susan Marthandan. He said we had good aspiring team when he was there playing in it spoke good of college as he heard many good things about HCAS and he is ready, glad to help in basket ball team of HCAS and thanked college for inviting him to this function.
The Director, Dr. Susan Marthandon, Deputy Director of Academics Dr. VJ Philip as well as the Principal Dr. S. Thirumagan and VP Mr. Samuel Sampath Kumar and others along with students and teaching faculties and others including students participated in large numbers.
It started with prayers as March Past of NCC cadets of four houses followed and the Deputy Director of Academics Dr. VJ Philip declared the sports meet open. Miss G Vidya of BSc Math gave the oath while the olympic torch went around and lit the lamp.
The sports meet consist of 800 and 400 meters for men and 200 and 100 meters for women. There were also 400 meters running relay for both men and women. Other games that were competed were volleyball, javelin throw and others. There were also a special competitions for teaching staff that being held during the event. The winners were awarded medal and certificates that were awarded by Chief guests and other dignitaries present.
The valedictory function was held after all events as the Principal Dr. S. Thirumagan welcomed the chief guest Mr.C.V.Sunny and the dignitaries said that the event was done successfully and extend their hearty felicitations to participants.
The Director, Dr. Susan Marthandan said she is happy to be present and commended all addressing it to the students and staff for the competition. She spoke of her school days when she played basket ball as her sons are playing in school now felt sorry as Indian basketball team is not performing that well now and she had discussed it with Chief Guest. You have to keep your body in good shape as sports helps that, she said. It is not studies alone that is important but also sports that helps in inculcating discipline. We see more participation in sports every year at HCAS and she is happy about it as it is part of curriculum welcoming cheerfully the Chief Guest Mr. CV Sunny.
After the prize distribution to staff and students who won the competetion, the event came to an end as Miss Jency, sports secretary delivered vote of thanks thanking everyone who made this occasion a grand success. The event ended with singing of National Anthem.
