HCAS Holds the Awareness Program for World Aids Day

Hindustan College of Arts and Science, Padur campus, had observed World AIDS day and “Know Your Status” was the theme given by the World Health Organization (WHO). The MSW department had organised this program and students together with the teaching staff participated the affair with enthusiasm.

Dr.S. Ilanjiam, Dean, School of Sciences, HCAS, welcomed Dr. VJ Philip, DD- Academics. He is always supportive in any ventures, she said. She also welcomed the Principal Dr. S. Thirumagan, “a dynamic disciplined and inculcating principal” as she also said of him.

AIDS is a virus disease like one gets fever due to infection and it attacks the body immune system and prevention is better and easier than the cure. She is the HOD of Microbiology department and the brain in arranging the technical meet on AIDS as it concerns her department. The disease affects defensive mechanism of the body that leads to a severe complications like tuberculosis or TB. The person’s tongue becomes white due to the effect of TB and high fever and only prevention she said will be the only way for a long life from this infection and dreadful disease.

Dr. S. Thirumagan, the Principal said, he appreciates this awareness program on AIDS and it is an eye opener to the students’ community and appreciated the work of MSW department. He said AIDS was prevalent during his college times and prevention is the only cure available and congratulated the social work department for doing a good work.

Dr. V.J. Phillip DD – Academics recalled 1986 year when AIDS became full blown and told students to avoid risky behaviour. One person that gets infected and had a wound must not mingle to people who are not affected otherwise the juice or blood coming out from the wound will give them the infection till it gets to a full blown stage which is called.. “AIDS”.

The NSS students of college, staged a play on AIDS followed by a film presentation on AIDS. Dr. John Britto, Asst. prof of social work department proposed a vote of thanks and thanking the DDA, the Principal and others for making the program a successful one.
