Chennai bats for environment sustainability

It was a moment when environment sustainability got an endorsement with a big bang in Chennai. This was to mark World Environment Day and highlight the need to give care to environment. 

On World Environment Day, The Willingdon School at Besant Road in Chennai took up the charge of educating their students about the importance of green foliage.

Through a tree plantation drive conducted in collaboration with SankalpTaru Foundation, an IT enabled tree plantation NGO the enthusiastic school authorities planted trees of neem, peepal, lemongrass in the school vicinity. 

Chennai coordinator of National Green Corps (Tamilnadu) Thangaraj was the chief guest and spoke on importance of having a sound environment. SankalpTaru senior donor officer C Vajiravelu spoke about how people can become environment friendly and create an healthy-green surrounding for themselves. Students too went ahead with enthusiasm and took a pledge to protect trees and plant more to give green cover a boost. 

Focus on plam trees
Plam tree, well-known as Panaimaram in Tamilnadu did receive good deal of importance on World Environment Day. The tree known to have lot of economic and environmental significance is on decline currenlty. Its significance got a boost this World Environment Day celebrations as measures were taken to plant the popular tree at M V Hospital for Diabetes.

The plantation organised by SankalpTaru Foundation witnessed plantation of ther species of trees also. SankalpTaru is extending its green footprints all across the nation with its more than 790,000 planted and survived trees, Tamilnadu would also soon flaunt its billions of Palm trees and the lush greenery as well, says C Vajiravelu.
