From TN to Assam…to help, to serve

When many may even hesitate to step out of their homes, southern movie star travelled to seven districts of flood-torn Assam and distributed 1,700 kilos of rice, 550 kgs of dal, 200 litres of oil and grocery of 500 kgs.
‘When water is there everywhere, it won’t be easy to reach any locations. We were fortunate to get help of a person who rowed the boat for us and took us to locations,’ says AbiSaravanan sharing his experience with Infodea soon after his return from Assam.
The rower was also visually challenged, coming to know that people are in distress, he determinedly came forward to take us places. Seeing his grit, we became more determined to take help to those in need.
The movie star gives credit to others also. Juno, Akhil and Asha, the residents of Assam also came forward to help him in his good work. ‘Juno deserves a special mention, says AbiSaravanan. ‘One of her family members passed away, but that did not prevent from her from coming forward to lend a helping hand.’
AbiSaravanan did not understand the language the people spoke there, but the cheer on their faces conveyed the message of gratitude. ‘I could see it in their eyes, humanity doesnot need any language to understand the feelings of satisfaction, thankfulness.’
What motivated AbiSaravanan to commence serving those in distress? ‘The major flood that struck Chennai in 2015.’ I could see people suffering without food, water.
‘That was a difficult time, seeing many struggling for food and water, I decided to do my part to bring down peoples suffering.’ That is how the service work began for the actor.
He was there in Kanyakumari during 2017 floods. Service work was taken up when natural calamity rocked Kerala. ‘I want to continue the service in future also,’ says AbiSaravanan.
