New Delhi, June 12, 2026: India witnessed a series of significant developments across governance, infrastructure, education, agriculture, space technology, social welfare, and international cooperation as multiple ministries and government agencies announced new initiatives aimed at accelerating the country’s growth and strengthening its global standing.

President of India to Visit Uttarakhand

The President of India is scheduled to visit Uttarakhand from June 12 to 13, 2026, as part of her official engagements in the state.

Prime Minister Chairs NITI Aayog Governing Council Meeting

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the 11th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog, focusing on cooperative federalism, inclusive development, and strategies to achieve India’s long-term economic and social goals.

The Prime Minister also reiterated the government’s commitment to farmers’ welfare, modern agricultural infrastructure, and strengthening India’s agricultural ecosystem. Earlier, he shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam emphasizing the importance of agriculture and crops as the foundation of human civilization.

Multiple Chief Ministers Meet Prime Minister

During the day, the Prime Minister held separate meetings with the Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, and Jammu & Kashmir to discuss state-specific developmental priorities and governance initiatives.

India and Nepal Launch Cross-Border Remittance System

In a major step towards enhancing financial connectivity, India and Nepal launched a cross-border remittance mechanism aimed at facilitating faster, safer, and more efficient money transfers between the two neighboring countries.

The initiative is expected to strengthen economic cooperation and improve financial inclusion for citizens on both sides of the border.

BRICS Urbanisation Forum Begins in New Delhi

The 13th BRICS Urbanisation Forum commenced in New Delhi under India’s chairship, bringing together policymakers, urban planners, and experts from BRICS nations to discuss sustainable urban development, smart cities, and future-ready infrastructure.

India’s Space Sector Invites Greater Private Investment

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh called upon industry leaders to increase investments in India’s rapidly expanding space sector. Highlighting the government’s reforms, he emphasized the vast opportunities available for private participation in satellite technology, launch services, and space-based applications.

The minister also inaugurated a Department of Science and Technology-funded Central Instrumentation Facility and three research clusters at IIT Gandhinagar, aimed at boosting scientific innovation and advanced research.

Textile Sector Records Significant Growth

Union Minister Giriraj Singh stated that India’s textile sector has witnessed unprecedented growth and transformation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The sector continues to play a vital role in employment generation, exports, and economic development.

Major Agreement Signed for Assam-Nagaland Oil Operations

In the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Government of India, Assam, and Nagaland to facilitate mineral oil operations in the Assam-Nagaland boundary areas.

The agreement is expected to enhance energy security and promote cooperative development between the two northeastern states.

Government Expands Support for Farmers

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare released the Second Advance Estimates of horticultural crop area and production for 2025-26. Additionally, India’s first nationwide AI-powered WhatsApp advisory service for oilseed farmers, “Oilseeds Kisaan Mitra,” was launched to provide real-time guidance and support to cultivators.

The Bureau of Indian Standards also released IS 20201:2026, a new standard designed to protect indigenous crop varieties and contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 2 focused on food security.

New Momentum for Skill Development and Employment

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship announced the first meeting of SARTHI, a major initiative aimed at transforming India’s Industrial Training Institute (ITI) ecosystem through modernization and industry alignment.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje represented India at the 114th International Labour Conference in Geneva, highlighting the country’s labour reforms, social protection programmes, and digital public infrastructure.

Infrastructure and Public Services Receive Boost

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated a 20-kW Akashvani FM transmitter in Ramgarh, Jaisalmer, expanding radio connectivity in remote regions.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways also highlighted the role of Network Survey Vehicles (NSVs) in enhancing safety standards across India’s national highways through advanced monitoring technologies.

Social Welfare Initiatives Continue to Expand

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment reported that over 11 crore citizens have benefited from various welfare programmes over the past 12 years.

Union Minister Annapurna Devi emphasized that schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana have become powerful instruments of women’s empowerment and inclusive development.

Maritime and Regional Security Remain a Priority

The Government of India announced heightened vigilance to safeguard Indian seafarers amid evolving maritime security conditions in the Gulf region.

Separately, the Indian Navy successfully recovered an unexploded missile warhead from a merchant tanker off the coast of Kochi, ensuring maritime safety and preventing potential hazards.

Commerce and Global Economic Engagement

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted the importance of India’s Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with developed economies in driving growth, innovation, quality enhancement, and job creation.

The minister is also scheduled to visit Switzerland on June 12–13 to strengthen bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

Pharmaceutical Quality and Healthcare Standards Strengthened

A Scientific Conclave on Indian Pharmacopoeia 2026 held in Haridwar emphasized the importance of pharmacopoeial standards in ensuring pharmaceutical quality, safety, and regulatory excellence.

India Continues Its Journey Towards Viksit Bharat

The day’s announcements collectively reflected India’s continued focus on economic growth, innovation, self-reliance, infrastructure development, social welfare, agricultural modernization, and international engagement.

From strengthening regional partnerships and advancing scientific research to empowering farmers and expanding digital governance, the government reaffirmed its commitment to building a developed and globally competitive India.
