Jio Platforms announced that it will use NXP Semiconductors’ Layerscape family of multicore processors in its 5G New Radio (NR) O-RAN small cell solution for powering new RAN networks, as part of a collaborative partnership to enable a wide range of 5G use cases for broadband access, Industry 4.0, and Internet of Things (IoT) applications. In its new 5G NR solutions, Jio Platforms, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), has used NXP’s Layerscape processors.

“5G New Radio solutions necessitate platform flexibility, efficiency, and extensive tooling, all of which NXP provides. Jio Platforms has collaborated with NXP to build cutting-edge radio devices that adhere to the 3GPP and O-RAN standards. We have a long history of working closely with NXP, and we look forward to deepening that relationship even more.” Aayush Bhatnagar, Jio Platforms’ senior vice president, stated.

Chairman Mukesh Ambani stated at the 44th Annual General Meeting of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) that Jio has tested its homegrown 5G solution in India with its partners and achieved speeds of more than 1Gbps. He went on to say that once Jio’s 5G solutions have been validated on a large scale in India, the company will explore exporting them to other markets.

Jio’s engineers have created a fully cloud native, software defined, and digitally managed 5G solution that is 100 percent homegrown. Jio has made significant progress on developing this cutting-edge Standalone 5G technology, which represents a quantum leap forward in wireless bandwidth.

In Delhi, Mumbai, Gujarat, and Hyderabad, Jio had applied for trials.

Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea (Vi) were recently given 5G trial spectrum in the 700 MHz, 3.5 GHz, and 26 GHz bands by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to create India-relevant use cases for the next-generation fast wireless broadband technologies.

Jio Platforms Ltd (JPL), India’s largest mobile network provider, has continually backed new technological solutions for millions of users and is aggressively addressing India’s 5G potential.
