The 2024 Smart India Hackathon in Tamil Nadu

An important turning point in India’s technological innovation environment will be reached on December 11, 2024, when the Ministry of Education hosts the 7th edition of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH). Over 1,300 student teams will compete to create solutions for real-world problems at this year’s hackathon finale, which will take place at 51 locations nationwide.

The national significance of this technological innovation platform will be highlighted during the grand finale when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will engage with young inventors via a special videoconference.

More than 126 students from different states will participate in the hackathon, divided into 21 teams of six. Participants will concentrate on creating novel solutions for important industries like information development, revenue departments, fire departments, healthcare, and social welfare.

With more than 250 problem statements submitted by 54 ministries, agencies, state governments, and industries, this year’s event stands out for its broad reach. The competition will encompass 17 subject areas, showcasing a thorough approach to using technical innovation to address societal concerns.

Excel Engineering College in Kumarapalayam, Namakkal; Sri Krishna Engineering and Technology College in Coimbatore; and Sai Ram Engineering College in Tambaram, Chennai, are important hosting sites.

Sri Krishna Engineering College Principal Dr. Porkumaran stressed the importance of the event as a forum for improving technical proficiency and knowledge exchange among various geographical areas. This is the fifth time in a row that his institution has successfully conducted the hackathon.

Chennai student Madhumitha Kumar emphasised the competitions’ wider effects, pointing out how they help young innovators strengthen their technical abilities, find work, and encourage entrepreneurship.
