Guwahati hosted the Semiconductor Conference in 2024

As part of Advantage Assam 2.0, the Semiconductor Conference 2024 took place at Guwahati’s Kar Bhawan. Representatives from international and Indian semiconductor manufacturing businesses attended the event. The conference’s main topic was the different steps needed to grow Assam’s semiconductor industry. Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, Assam’s Industries Minister Bimal Borah, and top Tata Group personnel were among the notable guests.

Officials from the Assam Government also held talks with representatives of semiconductor manufacturing companies from nations such as Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, and Singapore. Representatives from top domestic and foreign semiconductor manufacturing businesses engaged in talks with Assam government officials today, according to Bimal Borah.

The goal was to make Assam an essential component of India’s semiconductor industry. At an estimated cost of Rs 27,000 crore, a semiconductor factory would be built in Jagiroad. To operationalise the facility, substantial equipment and resources will be needed. According to the minister, efforts are underway to guarantee that Assamese local industries integrate into this ecosystem.

The Advantage Assam 2.0 event is scheduled for January 24 and 25, 2025, according to the state government. The purpose of the event is to entice investors from all around the world to investigate Assamese potential. An important step forward for the state’s industrial potential is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assurance that he will attend the first session. The Minister further emphasised how this project will give young people in Assam a lot of job options.
