The Telangana government has started a survey based on caste

A caste-based survey has been initiated by the Telangana government, encompassing 33 districts and more than 1.17 crore households. This momentous action fulfils the election pledge made by the Congress government and is the first caste-based census conducted in the state since 1931. In order to ensure equitable development for all, the survey seeks to collect vital information on the socioeconomic circumstances of diverse populations.

Over the course of the following few weeks, over 80,000 enumerators will be sent out to gather data door-to-door. The census will take place between November 6 and November 30. Congress officials claim that the Telangana census serves as a model for their party’s national projects.

Today marks the completion of 95% of the first phase of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s (GHMC) thorough house-to-house survey, which began on November 6. In order to count the 29,58,277 estimated households, including Secunderabad Cantonment, a house survey was conducted.

While the current household survey is 95 percent finished, the projected household survey is 84.44 percent, or 22,62,230 dwellings, done. In light of this, a total of 19,722 enumerators were assigned, with one enumerator designated as a block for 150 houses. The process also involved 1,728 more supervisors.

During the first phase, the enumerators attached stickers to the houses for identification and kept a list of all the houses in the designated blocks for three days. Within GHMC bounds, 95 percent of the first phase was finished.

The remaining homes from the first phase will be surveyed by the enumerators in the second phase. Beginning on Saturday, the enumerators begin surveying the family members about their socioeconomic condition, occupation, education, political affiliation, and caste.
