The Telangana government has made the decision to reject a Rs 100 crore grant from the Adani Group for the Young India Skills University, which was just established. At a press conference today, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy made the announcement in the face of criticism from the Adani Group from groups like BRS.
“In view of recent allegations of bribery and impropriety against the Adani Group, we have decided to decline their donation for the university,” Reddy stated. “We are committed to maintaining transparency and integrity in all our dealings.” In order to give young people access to vocational training, the Telangana government had previously announced that it would be partnering with the Adani Foundation to create the Young India Skills University. For the operations and infrastructure of the university, the Adani Group had committed Rs 100 crore.
But the decision to turn down the gift comes after the Adani Group was widely criticised for allegedly engaging in stock manipulation and fraud. According to Revanth Reddy, the Adani Group has received a letter alerting them of the government’s decision. He underlined that the government will keep looking for additional funding options for the university.
“We remain committed to providing quality vocational training to our youth and will ensure that the Young India Skills University fulfils its mission,” Reddy stated. Regarding the Telangana government’s decision, the Adani Group has not yet released a statement.
