Shivraj Singh reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing the Minimum Support Price amid farmers’ protests over the MSP
INN/New Delhi, @Infodeaofficial
The government declared today that it is committed to providing a Minimum Support Price that is at least 50% more than the cost of producing crops, despite farmers’ protests over the MSP and other demands. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan responded to Rajya Sabha supplementaries by stating that the Centre is committed to the welfare of farmers and has increased MSP on a number of commodities.
According to the Minister, MSPs that are at least 50% more than the county’s cost of production are being used to purchase crops like as paddy, wheat, jowar, bajra, ragi, maize, tur, and moong. He went on to say that the MSP is 100% for certain crops. According to the minister, there was no MSP agricultural procurement during the previous UPA administration. Additionally, he said that the current government had accepted the M. S. Swaminathan Committee’s recommendation that the UPA regime reject the demand for at least 50% more than the cost of production crops.
At the border between Haryana and Punjab, a few farmers’ unions are demonstrating in favour of a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price for crops, among other things. In an effort to get their demands met, they too intend to march towards Delhi.
