Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the Congress, brought attention to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s “voter list manipulations” today in advance of state elections. Additionally, he chastised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not standing up for India’s commercial and trade interests during his most recent trip to the US.
The president of the Congress also stated in his opening remarks at today’s meeting of AICC General Secretaries and in-charges that the various state leaders will be held responsible for the organization and electoral outcomes in their states.
“I want to share with you a crucial point regarding accountability. He informed the general secretaries and in-charges that they will all be held responsible for the organization and the outcome of the upcoming elections in the states they oversee. He spoke to the recent problem of “voter list manipulation,” stating that Rahul Gandhi had brought up the matter in the Lok Sabha and that it was occurring widely throughout elections.
He emphasized how the names of Congress supporters were either removed from the voter list or added at the last minute in a different polling place, stating that this rigging must be stopped at all costs. He charged that the BJP had added new candidates right before the poll.Ā The president of the Congress further mentioned how the administration manipulated the Chief Election Commissioner appointment process by keeping the Chief Justice of India off the committee.
According to him, the Supreme Court’s order included the Chief Justice in the Chief Election Commissioner’s (CEC) selection committee; nevertheless, Modi also removed him. In reference to Rahul Gandhi’s criticism of the committee’s goalāthat the government was attempting to utilize the Leader of the Opposition only for “certification”āhe noted, “The government does not even trust the impartiality of the Chief Justice of the country.”
Referring to PM Modiās visit to the United States, Kharge said, he (the PM) had failed to protect Indiaās trade and business interests. He pointed out, the PM did not protest the imposition of tariffs by the US on Indian goods.Ā āThey are forcing a loss-making deal on us, which our government is silently accepting. This is clearly an insult to India and its peopleā, he observed, while adding, āAmerica is hurting us deeply even in economic mattersā.
The Congress president said that despite Modiās visit, America was sending back Indian citizens handcuffed as before. He revealed that vegetarian passengers were given non-veg food. āOur government also failed to protest this insult properlyā, he remarked.
He mentioned the “Save Constitution Campaign,” which will go on for another year. Activities like “padyatra,” “samvaad” (debates), and corner meetings can be held under this campaign, he suggested. “However, the goal of every such program should be organization strengthening,” he said.
In a special statement regarding the Congress’s success in Delhi, the president stated that despite the party’s shortage of funding, the leaders, candidates, and workers did their best and fostered a change-oriented environment.
“Our endeavor for the next 5 years should be to emerge as the main opposition by continuously fighting and leading mass movements on public issues,” he stated, highlighting the need to maintain the momentum. “Only this will make us the people’s first choice,” he continued.
