Indian Army gets Dhanush

Indian Army received something to boost its capacity from this city. The first six Dhanush guns made at Gun Carriage Factory (GCF) in Jabalpur were handed over to our army at a function on the organisation’s premises on 9 April.

Jabalpur contributes to the nation

Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh became the talk of the town as it ventured ahead to contribute towards strengthening of India on 9 April. This will engrave the name of the famed city in gold in the history of India.

Indian Army received something to boost its capacity from this city. The first six Dhanush guns made at Gun Carriage Factory (GCF) in Jabalpur were handed over to our army at a function on the organisation’s premises on 9 April.

The Guns were flagged off by Saurabh Kumar, director general of Ordnance Factories and Chairman of the Ordnance Factory Board in the presence of Ajay Kumar, Secretary of Defence Production to the Government of India and Lt General P.K. Srivastava, the Director General of Artillery.

Dhanush is a 155mm x 45 calibre modern artillery gun system, developed jointly with the Indian Army and manufactured by the Ordnance Factories. After receiving a bulk production clearance in February, an initial order of 114 guns was placed with Ordnance Factories Board (OFB).

Dhanush has in it the latest features like inertial navigation system, an on-board ballistic computer, direct day and night firing system, a modern target acquisition system and a communication system that makes the weapon compatible with the Army’s project ‘Shakti.’

Weighing less than 13 tonnes, with a high ground clearance of 400mm, a range of elevation from -3° to 70 ° and an arc of traverse of 60,° Dhanush is the most maneuverable artillery system and can be deployed in any terrain. Dhanush will provide the much needed muscle to Indian Army in the days to come, say the officials of GCF.
