The counting of votes for the 2024 Haryana Assembly General Elections will start at 8 AM on October 8, 2024, according to Pankaj Agarwal, the Chief Electoral Officer for the state of Haryana. For each of the state’s 22 districts’ 90 assembly constituencies, 93 counting centres have been established. For the assembly constituencies of Badshahpur, Gurugram, and Pataudi, two counting centres have been constructed; for the remaining 87 assembly constituencies, one counting centre has been built. The Indian Election Commission has also designated ninety counting observers to keep an eye on the procedure.
According to Pankaj Agarwal, extensive security plans have been put in place for the counting. At 93 counting centres, a total of 30 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces are in operation. Three tiers of security have been implemented for the counting centres. The deepest security cover is occupied by central security troops. District police officers and state armed police officers will then be stationed in the outermost cover. At the state’s counting centres, about 12,000 police officers are on duty.
According to Agarwal, there are enough checkpoints placed within a 100-meter radius around each counting centre. In order to closely monitor all actions, CCTV cameras have been installed in each of the 90 strong rooms where the EVM are kept. It will not be permitted for unauthorised persons to enter certain places. To ensure thorough monitoring, CCTV cameras have also been installed at the main entrance and throughout the counting centres’ whole premises.
Deputy Commissioners and District Election Officers convened a meeting to assess the readiness for the counting process and to give guidelines for guaranteeing a smooth and orderly procedure on 8 October.
He said that on October 8 at 8 AM, the counting will start. The Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be counted thirty minutes after the postal ballots. Timely uploads of precise data for every counting round will be made. The strong rooms will be opened on the day of the counting in front of candidates, their authorised representatives, ECI observers, Returning Officers (ROs) and Assistant Returning Officers (AROs), and videography will be done. Additionally, cell phones will not be permitted within the counting centres.
Only those who are authorised by officials, workers, or other individuals will be allowed inside and outside the counting centres during the procedure. It is asked that the public and political party members examine the results at home rather than swarming the counting centres. The Voter Helpline App and the Election Commission of India’s website, http://results.eic.in/, will both offer the results.
At the counting centres, media centres have been established so that the press can get the most recent information. Only authorized people would be permitted admission into the counting centres. Furthermore, directives have been issued to rigorously monitor social media in order to stop any rumours about the counting process from spreading. For any information or complaints related to the counting process, citizens can contact the toll-free number 1950 or the control room at 0172-2701362.
