With yet another thrilling victory by nine wickets over the Colombo Jaguars at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, the Jaffna Titans have utterly dominated the first edition of the Lanka T10 Super League. After Kevin Wickham was trapped in front of the stumps by Angelo Mathews for 0 off 3, Jaffna lost him early while chasing a target of 100 runs.

However, in the sixth over, wicket-keeper Kusal Mendis seized the responsibility and showed some power striking to assist the team cross the finish line. Mendis contributed with an undefeated 79 off 23, a knock that featured 11 fours and five maximums. Together with Charith Asalanka, who hit 16* off 8, the right-handed batter stitched a stand of 98* runs for the second wicket.

Colombo was reduced to 28/5 earlier in the day by Jaffna bowlers, who took wickets at regular intervals, before they were finally held to 99/8 in 10 overs. Lahiru Kumara claimed a few wickets, but Dunith Wellalage emerged as the best bowler after returning with figures of 3/5 in two overs. George Garton and captain David Wiese each took one wicket.

Ramesh Mendis’s late charge added a few runs to the total, but the Jaguars didn’t exactly get off to the start they had hoped for. With 16 points, Mendis scored 28*. With four victories and ten points from six games, the Titans have earned a spot in the playoffs.
