Tbm-CGL 3rd line by March next year

There is happy news for Chennai residents on the railway front. There is a news that can bring much relief to people travelling on Chennai Beach to Chengelpet route. The 3rd railway line between Tambaram to Chengelpet will be completed by March next year.
Speaking to reporters General Manager of Southern Railway John Thomas said there are certain land issues and they were discussing with the State government. We are hopeful of sorting out the issues soon, he said. Once this line becomes operational, scope for operating more trains in the route of Chennai Beach to Chengelpet enhances, this can bring much relief to passengers in this route which is said to be highly crowded.
Another good news on the railway front is that the work on Korukkupet Road-Over-Bridge (ROB) is likely to begin soon. The work could begin in a fortnight’s time.
There should be required traffic diversions for the work to begin, he said reminding that the it could take about a year for the ROB work to witness completion. We have met the city police commissioner for bringing in the required traffic diversion, he said.
He said that a total of 929 reserved specials and 2627 unreserved specials were run upto August this year. Highlighting further on Southern Railway’s performance John Thomas said 141 trips of water special rake have been dispatched from Jolarpettai to Villivakkam with each carrying 2.5 million litres of water with an objective of addressing the water scarcity issue in Chennai.
