Congress Names Tariq Anwar as Candidate for Bihar Legislative Council Polls

Tariq Anwar served as a member of the council of ministers in the times of Manmohan Singh government but quit the party, a couple of years ago when media reported Panwar defending PM Narendra Modi on Rafale Deal. He once left the congress party in Rajiv Gandhi times to form a party in partnership with Sharad Pawar and PA Sangma in 1999.
A surprising note came, when Congress on Wednesday that Tariq Anwar (Former Union Minister and Veteran Leader) will be standing in elections for Bihar legislative council from Congress.Â
Congress President Sonia Gandhi declared and approved the name of the candidate as a nominee for the legislative election for Bihar- Tariq Anwar.

AICC General Secretary Mukul Wasnik said in a statement âCongress president Sonia Gandhi has approved the candidature of Tariq Anwar as the party nominee for the ensuing biennial election to the Biharâ
A Statement on this was issued by AICC general secretary, Mukul Wasnik, the process of filling the form for nomination will come to a close some hours before Thursday.
Anwar has also headed multiple-term MP from Katihar Lok Sabha partyâs state unit in the 1980s but parted ways a decade later when he founded the Congress Party with strongman Sharad Pawar (Maharashtra Strongman) and PA Sangma from Meghalaya.Â
Anwar returned to Congress last year and was fielded from Katihar in Lok Sabha Polls last year, notwithstanding Pawarâs denial. He also lost to a less-fancied candidate of the JDU by a margin of over 50,000 votesÂ
