It was celebrated along with socialites and dignitaries from the city. The Cake Mixing Ceremony is believed to have originated in the 17th century, it was practiced in traditional Christian households, indicating the arrival of the harvest season. During this time fruits and nuts are harvested and prepared to be a part of the traditional Christmas Plum Cake. A part of the mix was carried over in the hope that the following year would also bring forth an abundant harvest. However, apart from cake baking which happens much after cake mixing is done, is a kind of pickling process during which the mixed ingredients are allowed to marinate in the juices and beverages for around 40 days before baking starts and mixing all the ingredients by hand was truly an enjoyable and unforgettable experience for all. It marked an eventful kick-start to the joyous festivities of the Christmas season.
