All Thai AirAsia flights to Kathmandu are cancelled as Nepal’s winter flight schedule begins

Thai AirAsia has been subject to action by the Civil Aviation Authority Nepal (CAAN), which has suspended all of its flights to Nepal effective immediately.

However, the aviation regulatory agency claims that after being placed “on hold” for around an hour in the air, the airline’s flight from Thailand to Kathmandu was eventually permitted to land at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). Citing humanitarian concerns and the passengers’ safety, it was permitted to land.

Gyanendra Bhul, the Authority’s Information Officer, affirmed that Thai AirAsia’s flights have been temporarily banned by the CAAN. The General Sales Agent (GSA) position at the airline has been eliminated. Thai AirAsia’s flight permission was only valid until October 26.

The trip today has been approved to operate as a “special chartered” flight in light of this. Following the TIA’s implementation of winter flight schedules beginning on October 27, 2024, and lasting until March 31, 2025, this action was taken.

Following Nepal’s attempt to fully utilise Pokhara and Bhairahawa international airports for international flights, Thai Air Asia was authorised to fly four flights per week from Bhairahawa to Thailand earlier this year in August.
