US and Russian army commanders make an uncommon request regarding military exercises

Amid an increase on the battlefield in Ukraine, Russia’s defence ministry announced Thursday that the Russian and US army commanders had a rare phone conversation last week. In the midst of Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine, direct communication between Moscow and Washington has all but stopped, and the Kremlin has stated that it views the US as a direct participant in the battle.
The US Chairman of the Joints Chiefs of Staff General Charles Brown and Russia’s Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov spoke over the phone on November 27 at the “initiative of the Russian side,” according to Moscow’s defence ministry. It was the first call between the two, according to US and Russian media. According to a Telegram statement from the defence ministry, Gerasimov told Brown about Russian military exercises in the eastern Mediterranean.
“This information was given with the goal of preventing possibile incidents in connection with the presence of US and NATO ships near the area of Russian drills,” added the statement. According to the New York Times, which cited a US military official, the two talked about Russia’s new Oreshnik hypersonic ballistic missile and the war in Ukraine.
According to CNN, Brown also voiced US concerns about North Korean forces being sent to the battlefield to assist Russia’s army.Since Donald Trump’s victory in the November presidential election, tensions between the United States and Russia have increased.
While Russia lowered its threshold for using nuclear weapons, the departing Joe Biden administration authorised Kyiv to launch US-supplied ATACMS missiles against Russian territory. Russia says it “test fired” a never-before-seen nuclear-capable missile in an assault on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro in retaliation for Kyiv using the Western weapons to hit Russian border regions.
