A petition to suspend the broadcasting of all Indian television networks in Bangladesh has been submitted to the High Court of Bangladesh. According to United News of Bangladesh (UNB), a Supreme Court attorney filed the petition on Monday, designating the Home Secretary, the Information Secretary, and the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) as respondents.

According to the Daily Star newspaper, the lawyer filed the case, claiming that Indian TV networks are promoting anti-Bangladesh propaganda that threatens Bangladesh’s sovereignty and negatively affects the two nations’ cordial relationship.

The motion asks the High Court to completely prohibit Indian TV networks from broadcasting in the nation, citing Section 29 of the Cable Television Network Operation Act 2006. According to UNB, it also asks for the publication of a rule to explain why a formal order should not be issued to halt these broadcasts. According to the attorney, the HC might hear the writ petition the next week.
