In Mastung, Balochisan, a police van was the target of a devastating blast on Friday that killed at least five children, a bystander, and a police official. With over 30 individuals badly hurt in the explosion, the death toll is predicted to increase. According to preliminary accounts, at least five schoolchildren, one police officer, and a bystander were killed when an IED (improvised explosive device) mounted on a motorbike exploded close to a police vehicle as it approached the Girls High School at the Civil Hospital Chowk.

The wounded were sent immediately to the Mastung District Headquarters Hospital and the Nawab Ghous Bakhsh Raisani Memorial Hospital. Three seriously injured people were then taken to the Trauma Centre in Quetta. Children make up the majority of the injured, according to Medical Superintendent Nisar Ahmed Baloch of DHQ (District Headquarters). The tragic event claimed the lives of five youngsters, all of whom were between the ages of ten and thirteen. The police truck was totally damaged by the explosion, which took place in an area that was packed with cars, stores, and schoolchildren.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti denounced the explosion and said, “Terrorists have now targeted innocent children along with labourers.” He conveyed his sorrow over the deaths and offered his condolences to the families and friends of the police officers and schoolchildren who were slain.

He went on to say, “We will exact revenge for the deaths of defenceless citizens, including children.” Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, the Senate’s chairman and Pakistan’s acting president, denounced the attack and called terrorists “enemies of humanity.” “Humanity is at war with terrorist groups. “The country supports law enforcement and security forces in their fight against terrorism,” he declared.

The explosion occurs one day after Pakistan Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch rejected any attempt to negotiate with the TTP (Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan), placing full responsibility for ending the harbouring, enabling, and support of anti-Pakistan terrorist organisations on the Afghan Taliban government on the other side of the border.

“There’s no room for external recommendations on our internal security matters, & we hav’t considered any offers for dialogue with the TTP,” the spokeswoman for the Pakistan Foreign Office said. Baloch said that Pakistan has no tolerance for talks with terrorist organisations, rejecting Afghanistan’s proposal for communication with the TTP. “Pakistani authorities have provided concrete evidence to Afghanistan and expect action against TTP hideouts,” .

The provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan have been severely affected by militant assaults directed at foreigners and security forces, particularly those from China who are involved in projects related to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Days prior to Friday’s explosion in Mastung, a gunman opened fire on residents at a dam construction site in Panjgur, Balochistan, killing at least five people.

Alongside KP, the province of Balochistan has remained very vulnerable in recent months. Terror-related occurrences have accounted for at least 97% of all deaths in both provinces this year, with militant groups like as the TTP, BLA (Baloch Liberation Army), and its affiliates claiming responsibility for the attacks.
