The US State Department claims that North Korean soldiers have actively joined the battle with Russian forces. State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel told reporters, “Most of the more than 10,000 DPRK (North Korean) soldiers who were sent to eastern Russia have relocated to the far western Kursk Oblast, where they have started to engage in combat operations with Russian forces.”
The United States has stated for the first time that North Korean forces are actively battling Ukraine. According to reports, Vladimir Putin is attempting to wrest the Kursk area back from Ukraine prior to Donald Trump’s January inauguration, so excluding it from any possible negotiation table.
Parts of the Russian land have been successfully occupied by Ukrainian troops since they invaded the region earlier this year. As many as 50,000 Russian and North Korean troops reportedly gathered on the region’s border in recent days, according to US and European news outlets.
