On suspicion of human trafficking, UML Lawmaker Lilaballav Adhikari was detained in Biratnagar and taken to Kathmandu for further examination. Lilaballav Adhikari, a UML lawmaker from the Koshi Provincial Assembly, was detained in Biratnagar on Sunday. Adhikari resigned as Koshi Province’s minister for Internal Affairs and Law last week due to accusations of human trafficking.

Three young people trying to enter Japan were allegedly set up with phoney identification documents by a human trafficking organisation. After that, he was taken from his Biratnagar residence to Kathmandu for further examination.

From October 29 to November 3, UML Lawmaker Adhikari and three young people flew to Japan under the guise of attending an event hosted by the Arts Council Tokyo. Adhikari and three other people were deported by Japan’s immigration, which brought attention to the incident. Adhikari is charged with abusing his position in an attempt to unlawfully transport individuals into Japan.
