Dubai is getting ready for the Festival of Lights, Diwali

With lavish celebrations scheduled at several important locations, Dubai is getting ready for Diwali, the Festival of Lights, which falls on October 31.One of Dubai’s top cultural attractions, Global Village, has already started preparing its grounds for the celebration. In front of the main stage, talented craftspeople are creating a magnificent 5-8 m Rangoli installation that will be a prominent focal point of the celebrations.
The location has set up a special Festival of Lights Market in anticipation of holiday shoppers. Traditional goods including clay diyas, celebratory decorations, Diwali sweets, and Indian jewellery are being stocked by vendors. To create a typical Diwali atmosphere, entrance sections such as the Happiness Gate and Gate of the World are being embellished with lit lamp posts.Meanwhile, the Noor Festival of Lights has brought life to the old Al Seef quarter.
Hundreds of members of the Indian community attended a complex cultural program that included dance performances, poetry readings, and folk music. Renowned nagada maestro Nathoo Lal Solanki’s performance, which featured giant puppet shows, was one of the highlights of the opening festivities.
For Diwali celebrations, students at different Indian-curriculum schools will get a four-day weekend, with some getting five days off.Dhanteras kicks off this year’s celebrations on October 29. The main Diwali celebration is held on Thursday, October 31. Diwali-themed décor and special deals have been introduced by a number of eateries, internet portals, and shopping centres.
As Dubai continues to hold large-scale multicultural festivals, event organisers anticipate that thousands of people will attend these week-long events.
