Md. Touhid Hossain, Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Advisor, stated on Saturday that Dhaka wishes to maintain its optimism that the country can build a positive relationship with India while ensuring that its interests are safeguarded.
He stated this at a discussion titled “Bangladesh-India Relations: Expectations, Barriers and Future” at North South University in Dhaka. “We want to remain optimistic that we would be able to maintain a good relationship with India, making sure that bilateral interests are protected,” he said.
But given the altered circumstances following August 5, he came to terms with reality. “After August 5, there is a change in the relations,” he stated. According to the state-run news organisation Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), “this is reality.”
The adviser emphasized the importance of a national consensus on foreign policy, saying Bangladesh could not fully capitalize its potentials due to political divisions, reports BSS.
