Everybody is looking at the Congressional Strategy Group meeting convened on Monday evening by Party Chairman Sonia Gandhi, where insiders are monitoring if Rahul Gandhi agrees to head the Lok Sabha Congress and is reluctant to occupy leaders and fill the gap at the top.

It is highly suspected that Congress would start next week with a new leader, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, for the monsoon session of Parliament.

Although Punjab MEPs Manish Tewari and Ravneet Bittu are competitors, as well as Shashi Tharoor, Gaurav Gogoi and Uttam Reddy, sources claim change started with the anticipation that Rahul will ultimately occupy the seat of Lok Sabha.

Insiders claim that after Rahul’s retirement as President of Congress during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, it is up to Gandhi to determine if he would take on the leadership that many consider as necessary to inculcate normality.

If Rahul continues to avoid the LS leadership, Congress will have to decide whether to replace Chowdhury. If this is the case, one plausible option is that Punjab politicians would make political adjustments in preparation for the next assembly elections.
