According to Indian President Droupadi Murmu, the world is recognising India’s progress in a number of areas, including defence. She said India is moving towards indigenisation and self-reliance in defence to keep the Armed Forces prepared to meet future challenges while speaking to the faculty and student officers of the Armed Forces who are undergoing training at the prestigious tri-services institute, Defence Services Staff College at Wellington in the Nilgiris District today.
According to her, India is developing into a significant centre for defence manufacture and is on its way to becoming a major exporter and dependable defence partner. According to her, India’s defence sector is advancing in accordance with Atma Nirbhar Bharat’s goal and quickly embracing the newest technologies.
President Droupadi Murmu emphasised that Indian defence firms like the HAL and agencies like the DRDO are establishing new standards. India already supplies military hardware to over 100 nations, she noted. She claimed that over the last ten years, India’s defence exports have increased thirtyfold, and that the Make in India initiative has been a key factor in this growth.
President Droupadi Murmu said we need to be adequately prepared to confront any situation in the fast changing geopolitical environment, whose dynamics have reshaped the security scene. She emphasised the importance of having a thorough awareness of both domestic and international issues. She emphasised the significance of preparing for emerging national security threats like cyberwarfare and terrorism in addition to safeguarding our national interests.
Speaking about climate change, President Droupadi Murmu stated that it is taking on new dimensions that require comprehension and management. She emphasised the need to apply state-of-the-art technologies and knowledge derived from extensive research.
The president said he is certain that our military leaders will be able to handle the challenges that lie ahead. She stated that everyone respects the Indian military and that they are leading the charge to protect our country’s borders and territorial integrity. She commended the defence troops, saying they always serve with the spirit of Nation First, and said the country is proud of our defence forces for always protecting our national interests. She expressed delight in what they do for the nation and recognised the role their families play in showing such bravery when sending their loved ones away on national service.
President Droupadi Murmu expressed satisfaction over the deployment of female officers in Siachen, the highest battlefield in the world, and pride that women are already making their mark in every field, including our military services. She pointed to a female officer in the Indian Navy who was appointed as the commanding officer of a frontline warship for the first time, demonstrating her delight in the fact that female officers are now in charge of diverse units in all three forces.
She talked about her visit to the INS Vikrant during her “Day at Sea” program in Goa, where she encountered young, vivacious female sailors and Agniveers. She said that everyone, especially young girls, finds encouragement and inspiration in the growing power and influence of women in all fields.
According to President Droupadi Murmu, she is excited to see more and more women enlisting in the military, where they will be able to showcase their extraordinary skills and set new records in unexplored areas. She emphasised that in the recent past, women soldiers had penned illustrious chapters in Indian history.
In his welcome speech, Lt. Gen. Virendra Vats, YSM, SM, VSM, Commandant of the Defence Services Staff College, stated that 38 defence force officers from 26 allied nations are among the student officers receiving in-service training at the prestigious tri-service institution. According to him, several of its foreign graduates have held positions as chiefs of defence forces and heads of state. A female Indian Air Force officer and an overseas student officer discussed their experiences with the continuous training. Participants in the program were state minister Meyyanathan.
