Cyclone Fengal has caused massive devastation to Tamil Nadu, with numerous districts reporting severe flooding and infrastructure collapse. The interior and northern parts of Tamil Nadu have been most hard hit by the storm, with Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, and Cuddalore bearing the brunt of its effects.

With an initial release of around 148,000 cusecs and a current flow of about 40,000 cusecs, the Water Resource Department has been in charge of controlling the Sathanur Dam’s enormous water releases.

Along the Then Pennai River, the extraordinary rainfall has caused a serious flood situation, submerging the neighbouring areas and interfering with daily life. Essential services like power are running at drastically reduced levels in a number of locations that have been seriously impacted.

Due to the total destruction of the Puducherry-Cuddalore east coast road, local officials were forced to reroute traffic via detours, which caused significant challenges for both locals and visitors.

The Indian Army’s Dakshin Bharat Battalion and the National Disaster Relief Force have swiftly mobilised in response to the disaster. To aid in rescue and relief efforts, over 20 tanks have been sent to Cuddalore.
