India is making a big effort to draw foreign students to its colleges with the formal launch of its “Study in India” campaign at the 20th International Education Show in Sharjah. The initiative, which is run by the Ministry of Education’s Miniratna business EdCIL, aims to establish India as a major global hub for education. Ahmed Mohamed Obaid Al Naboodah of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Shri Yatin Patil, the Deputy Consul General of India in Dubai, officially opened the India Pavilion at Expo Centre Sharjah.
Over 590 Indian universities and institutes are featured in the “Study in India” program, which offers a range of courses as well as special advantages including fee exemptions and scholarships for overseas students. The ad emphasises India’s dedication to offering high-quality education at reasonable costs, which draws students from underdeveloped nations to the country.
The Study in India portal, a centralised platform created to expedite the entire application process for overseas students, was highlighted by Dr. B. Chandrashekhar, Executive Director of EdCIL. “Students can explore academic programs, apply to multiple institutions, and manage their visas, all in one place with this portal, which simplifies admissions,” the spokesperson stated. He also emphasised the Study in India program’s wider reach, which includes collaborative academic and research initiatives with foreign universities.
India, which has the second-largest higher education industry globally, is still rising in the rankings. With universities like IISc Bangalore making major advancements, students looking for an inexpensive, top-notch education are finding India to be a more alluring option. In addition to internationally recognised universities, India’s education system is home to well-known establishments such as the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), and other centrally supported institutions. For the 2024–25 academic year, the program has already drawn over 69,000 students, of whom 4,000 have already been to India.
One of the most prestigious and rapidly expanding higher education shows is the International Education Show, which is presented in association with the Sharjah Private Education Authority. The event, which is being hosted by Expo Centre Sharjah with assistance from the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), brings together more than 100 academic institutions and universities from over 20 nations, including Bahrain, Malaysia, Cyprus, India, Canada, and the UK.
