To take part in Joint Military Exercise SURYA KIRAN, the Indian Army contingent headed for Nepal

To participate in the 18th Battalion Level Joint Military Exercise SURYA KIRAN, the 334-member Indian Army contingent departed for Nepal today. The exercise will take place in Saljhandi, Nepal, between December 31, 2024, and January 13, 2025. Every year, the two nations alternate hosting this training event. A Battalion from the 11th Gorkha Rifles is leading the Indian Army mission. Srijung Battalion will represent the Nepal Army contingent.

Enhancing interoperability in mountain counterterrorism operations, jungle warfare, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in accordance with the UN Charter are the goals of Exercise Surya Kiran. The exercise will concentrate on improving aviation aspects, medical training, environmental conservation, and operational readiness. Troops will improve their fighting skills, operational capacities, and coordination to work together in difficult circumstances through these exercises.

The version of Exercise SURYA KIRAN comes after General Ashok Raj Sigdel, the Chief of Army Staff of the Nepali Army, visited India and General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of Army Staff, visited Nepal with success. The exercise will give soldiers from Nepal and India a chance to share best practices, share ideas, and develop a greater understanding of one another’s operating processes.

The strong ties of friendship, trust, and shared cultural heritage between India and Nepal are symbolized by Exercise Surya Kiran. It demonstrates the steadfast dedication of both countries to a wider defense cooperation and lays the groundwork for a fruitful and professional interaction. Additionally, the exercise will promote bilateral ties between two friendly neighbors and accomplish common security goals.
