INN/New Delhi, @Infodeaofficial
The eighth edition of IBSAMAR, a combined multinational maritime exercise involving the Indian, Brazilian, and South African Navy, is set to take place from October 06–18, 2024. The Indian Navy’s frontline stealth frigate, INS Talwar, landed in Simon’s Town, South Africa, on October 6.
The goal of the exercise is to improve communication and fortify unity among the three navies. Surface and anti-air warfare are included in the broad concept, which is based on Blue Water Naval Warfare.
In addition to professional exchanges and drills involving damage control and firefighting, IBSAMAR VIII’s harbour phase will feature joint diving operations, aviation safety lectures, cross-boarding, sports interactions, cross-deck visits, and interactions between Special Forces and junior officers.
In order to achieve the shared objective of a peaceful maritime domain and a favourable maritime environment, multilateral exchanges between the navies of like-minded littoral nations are essential friendship bridges that build mutual confidence and improve interoperability.
The defence collaboration between South Africa and India is growing. Between the two navy, Operational Sea Training and Submarine Rescue Support have been underway since the 12th Navy-to-Navy talks took place in New Delhi on August 26–28, 2024.
The purpose of INS Talwar’s visit is to deepen the connections and underline India’s dedication to positive cooperation and reciprocal development. The Indian Navy’s Western Fleet, which is housed in Mumbai and is under the Western Naval Command, includes the INS Talwar, which was put into service on June 18, 2003. The ship is commanded by Captain Jithu George.
