The Indian Army contingent left for the 15th iteration of the joint Special Forces Exercise VAJRA PRAHAR between the United States and India. The exercise will take place in the Orchard Combat Training Centre in Idaho, USA, from November 2–22, 2024.
The identical exercise was last carried out in December 2023 in Umroi, Meghalaya. This will be the second Indian-US Army exercise of the year; the first was Exercise YUDH ABHYAS 2024, which was held in Rajasthan in September 2024.
Each of the two nations participating in the joint exercise will have 45 personnel in their contingent. Special Forces units will represent the Indian Army component, while US Army Green Berets will represent the US Army contingent.
By improving interoperability, jointness, and the sharing of special operations tactics, Exercise VAJRA PRAHAR seeks to advance military cooperation between the US and India. The exercise will improve teamwork in conducting joint Special Forces operations in a semi-arid or desert setting. The exercise will emphasise joint planning, joint tactical drills, and a high level of physical fitness.
