The readiness of the Indian Navy for Cyclone Fengal
INN/Chennai, @Infodeaofficial
In the Bay of Bengal, Cyclone Fengal is presently developing and is predicted to get stronger over the course of the next day or two.
Eastern Naval Command and Headquarters, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Naval Area, have activated a comprehensive disaster response mechanism with an emphasis on Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Relief (HADR) and Search & Rescue (SAR) operations in anticipation of the impact of this cyclone along the Tamil Nadu coast.
In cooperation with the State and civil administration, the Navy is preparing to provide all required assistance to the areas that are at risk. This entails setting up Flood Relief Teams (FRTs) for prompt reaction and packing cars with food, drinking water, medications, and other HADR relief supplies. Additionally, HQTN&P has maintained its diving teams on call in case of an emergency rescue.
The National Disaster Management Authority’s (NDMA) cyclone preparedness guidelines, which place a strong focus on the value of evacuation, shelter, and emergency supplies, serve as the Navy’s roadmap.
Some of the key measures the Indian Navy is undertaking are:
– Emergency Supplies: Stockpiling food, water, MREs and medical supplies to support the affected communities.
– Search and Rescue: Positioning naval personnel, including Geminis and helicopters for quick response to SAR requirements.
– HADR Relief Materials: Loading warships with HADR relief materials, such as food, water, and medical supplies.
The Indian Navy continues to monitor the situation closely and is committed to supporting the affected personnel and ensuring their safety during Cyclone Fengal.
