An important milestone will be reached when Pune, a city with a long military heritage, hosts the coveted Army Day Parade for the first time on January 15, 2025. Film enthusiasts, foreign dignitaries, and business executives responded well to the Indian Army’s promotional video for the forthcoming procession when it was unveiled during the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.

India’s post-independence military leadership is symbolised by the Army Day Parade, which honours Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa’s appointment as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army in 1949. The parade, which has historically taken place in Delhi, started travelling to other cities in 2023, first to Bengaluru and then to Lucknow in 2024. Pune’s inclusion in the 2025 parade emphasises the city’s longstanding military connections and its function as the home of the Indian Army’s Southern Command.

The Bombay Engineering Group and Centre will host this year’s parade, which will include marching contingents, mechanised columns, and technology displays. Highlights will include impressive performances including combat demonstrations and martial arts displays, as well as demonstrations of state-of-the-art defence technologies like robotics and drones.

Events like Pune’s “Know Your Army” exhibition, which is planned for early January, will give locals a chance to see cutting-edge weapons and talk to the soldiers who protect the country before the parade. These programs promote inclusivity and solidarity, transforming the Army Day Parade into a national celebration of bravery, commitment, and technical advancement rather than just a ceremonial event.

By moving the Army Day Parade between places, the Indian Army strengthens its links with people all over the country. By decentralising the celebration, this project gives local people a chance to interact directly with the Armed Forces.
