On November 17, 24 at around 1530, an Indian fishing boat (IFB) operating close to the No-Fishing Zone (NFZ) called in distress to the ICG ship on patrol. According to the call, seven Indian crew members had been arrested after a PMSA warship detained another Indian fishing boat, Kal Bhairav. The ICG Ship promptly responded by travelling at full speed to the reported location.
The PMSA ship attempted to flee, but the ICG ship caught it and convinced them to release the Indian fishermen. The seven fishermen were successfully retrieved by the ICG ship, and their health was determined to be stable. Regretfully, it was stated that the incident damaged and sank the Indian fishing vessel Kal Bhairav.
On November 18, the ICG Ship returned to Okha Harbour, where a joint inquiry was conducted by the State Police, the ICG, intelligence agencies, and Fisheries officials to look into what caused the collision and the rescue effort that followed.
The ICG’s determination to protect the Indian maritime community is demonstrated by this successful endeavour, which highlights its ongoing dedication to defending the rights and safety of Indian fishermen at sea.
