On Vijay Diwas, Indian and Bangladeshi troops greet each other and share candies

On the occasion of Bijoy Diwas on Monday, the Indian and Bangladeshi Armed Forces joined forces to mark the 53rd anniversary of the Liberation War of 1971. According to a press release from the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh, they exchanged greetings and candies at the Agartala-Akhaura border in Tripura, reflecting their shared history, long-standing friendship, and harmony.
Maj. Gen. Abul Hasnat Mohammad Tariq, GOC 33 Infantry Division of the Bangladesh Army, led the Bangladeshi side, while Maj. Gen. Sumit Rana, Chief of Staff 101 Area of the Indian Army, led the Indian side.
According to the High Commission, the warmth and unity on exhibit during the ceremony evoked powerful memories of the historic alliance and magnificent sacrifices made by the Indian Armed Forces soldiers and the Bangladesh Muktijoddhas during the fight that the brave men and women of Bangladesh fought for their country’s freedom. The significance of Tripura and Agartala in the Liberation War of 1971 was further highlighted by the occasion.
According to the press release, both sides remembered and reaffirmed the long-standing friendship between the Indian and Bangladeshi armed forces and their respective peoples, which has been built on blood and is based on the principles of justice, freedom, and equality.
The governor of Tripura flagged off a cycle rally at the Albert Ekka War Memorial and conducted a wreath-laying ceremony as part of the day’s events in Agartala. On Monday, there was also a felicitation event for Veer Naris and Indian ex-servicemen who fought in the Liberation War of 1971.
