On December 7, the National Flag was raised atop a colossal 108-foot high mast at Laungewala Yudh Sthal in honour of the extraordinary bravery and valour displayed by Indian soldiers during the Indo-Pak War of 1971. The Flag Foundation of India and the Indian Army worked together to make the flag installation feasible.

War veterans Naik Jagdev Singh and Hav Mukhtiyar Singh from 23 Punjab, who took part in this historic combat 53 years ago, graced the occasion. Eight other Jaisalmer district veterans of the 1971 war joined them. Members of the Indian Air Force, Border Security Force, civil administration, well-known individuals, and the local community were among those in attendance at the event. Schoolchildren sang patriotic songs as part of a cultural program to commemorate the occasion. These performances honoured the bravery of our Bravehearts and brought energy to the event.

The bravery and selflessness of our Armed Forces are demonstrated by the Battle of Laungewala, which was fought in December 1971. The holy site of Laungewala serves as a reminder of the bloody conflict that took place there from December 5–7, 1971, in which the bravery of a small group of people defeated the strength of thousands. At the real Laungewala combat site, a war memorial has grown to be a popular tourist destination, drawing thousands of people to honour our soldiers.

During his visit on November 14, 2020, PM Narendra Modi stressed the value of maintaining this legacy while promoting its growth as a place of national pride. Since then, Laungewala Yudh Sthal has seen significant change as a result of the Indian Army’s coordinated efforts. A 108-foot-tall national flag has now been raised as part of this change, further establishing this monument as a site of pride and commemoration.

The flag’s installation will serve as a reminder of the nation’s great history of bravery and patriotism, and the idea has received widespread praise. The imposing banner will serve as a potent reminder of the Indian Army’s unwavering dedication to the country and its unbreakable spirit.
