INS Delhi Celebrates Navy Day in Chennai in 2024

As part of the Navy Day Celebrations 2024, the Indian Navy’s magnificent cruiser, INS Delhi, arrived in Chennai harbour on November 23, 2024. The ship’s striking presence, which exuded vitality and excitement, was breathtaking.
On November 24, 2024, the Puducherry Naval Area and Headquarters, Tamil Nadu, arranged a ship visit for veterans, active duty officers, sailors, and defence civilians, along with their families, as part of the festivities. Visitors were able to witness the size and power of the Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet thanks to this exceptional chance.
A guided tour of the ship gave visitors an insight into the everyday routines of navy personnel. The purpose of the event was to increase understanding and admiration of the Indian Navy’s contribution to defending the country’s maritime interests.
Headquarters, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Naval Area has arranged for 500 schoolchildren and NCC cadets to visit the INS Delhi today, November 25, 2024. Additionally, JC Simon CHERA, a centenarian and former INS Delhi sailor, would be felicitated during the ceremony.
Since its commissioning on November 15, 1997, the Indian Navy has been using the powerful guided-missile destroyer INS Delhi (D61). Its outstanding qualities, which include a displacement of 6933 tonnes, a maximum beam of 17.2 meters, and a length of 163.2 meters, make it the lead ship of the Delhi class.
Four gas turbine generators with a combined power output capacity of 4 MW and four gas turbines with a combined 80000 HP power the ship. Brahmos surface-to-surface supersonic cruise missiles, Kashmir SAM, RBU 6000 anti-submarine rockets, and Varunastra torpedoes are among its cutting-edge weapons and sensors.
INS Delhi, the Eastern Fleet’s flagship, has taken part in a number of multilateral exercises, such as MILAN, MALABAR, and JIMEX. Additionally, it has demonstrated its operational capability by participating in bilateral drills.
Significant enhancements have been made to INS Delhi in recent years, such as the installation of a modern Fregat M2EM radar system and the replacement of its Kh-35E Uran missiles with BrahMos missiles.
