The Indian Army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI) announced on Saturday that the Bentong Camp in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, will host the joint military exercise between India and Malaysia, known as Harimau Shakti 2024, from December 2 to December 15. “The exercise is anticipated to improve interoperability between the Indian Army and the Malaysian Army in conducting sub-conventional operations under the United Nations mandate,” the Army said in an official statement on X.
The motto of this year’s bilateral military drill is “Two nations, one mission: Ensuring global peace.” “From December 2–15, 2024, India and Malaysia will participate in the joint military exercise Harimau Shakti at the Bentong Camp in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. “Exercise Harimau Shakti aims to enhance the Indian Army’s and Malaysian Army’s interoperability in carrying out unconventional operations in accordance with the UN mandate,” the ADGPI’s post stated.
The combined bilateral training exercise was held at the Umroi Cantonment in Meghalaya, India, in 2023. The Indian force was represented by a battalion of the Rajput Regiment, while the Malaysian Army contribution was made up of soldiers from the 5th Royal Battalion. “Exercise Harimau Shakti” seeks to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries and enhance defence cooperation between the Indian and Malaysian armies.
In the meantime, the 13th iteration of the Indian Army and Singapore Armed Forces’ bilateral joint military exercise, Agni Warrior 2024, came to an end on Saturday at the Field Firing Ranges in Devlali, Maharashtra. The Indian Army contingent, which included 114 members of the Regiment of Artillery, and the Singapore Armed Forces contingent, which included 182 members of the Singapore Artillery, participated in the three-day drill.
In accordance with the United Nations Charter, the exercise sought to maximise mutual awareness of drills and procedures in order to attain jointness as a multinational force. The exercise demonstrated how both forces’ artillery used new-generation equipment and coordinated firepower planning and execution. Colonel Ong Chiou Perng, Chief Artillery Officer, Singapore Armed Forces; Lieutenant General NS Sarna, Commandant, School of Artillery; and Lieutenant General Adosh Kumar, Director General of Artillery, attended the occasion.
