The T-90 Bhishma tank’s unveiling event was witnessed by Chief of Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, who is part of the Indian Army’s ongoing Decade of Transformation. The Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) at the 505 Army Base Workshop in Delhi Cantonment successfully overhauled the T-90 Bhishma.

An important step towards guaranteeing the operational preparedness of the armoured divisions of the Indian Army is the thorough overhaul of the T-90 at the 505 Army Base Workshop. Being the primary battle tank of India’s mechanised forces since 2003, the T-90 tank is well-known for its protection, mobility, and firepower. During the overhaul, the tank is disassembled down to the last bolt and nut and then rebuilt from the ground up. Through careful removal and rebuilding with exact machining and resetting procedures, over 200 assemblies and sub-assemblies are involved.

The technicians at the 505 Army Base Workshop (EME) have proven their technical skill by independently repairing and testing the T-90’s mechanical, electronic, and instrumental components. They have done this by using specially designed machinery and Test Benches provided by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). Before being refitted, every component is extensively examined using Automated Test Equipment (ATEs), guaranteeing the tank’s fitness for all-terrain operations and giving it fresh life.

In order to achieve this historic milestone, the technicians and officers of the Corps of EME were commended by General Dwivedi for their commitment, skill, and perseverance. He also urged them to keep pushing the limits of innovation and knowledge in their upcoming projects.
The Indian Army’s successful refurbishment of the T-90 tank is an example of its capacity to maintain and improve vital warfighting platforms while showcasing its continued Decade of Transformation to develop its technological capabilities. This accomplishment demonstrates the nation’s dedication to creating an independent and highly developed defence force, known as “Atmanirbhar Bharat.” The current transformation seeks to raise India’s defence capabilities to unprecedented levels through strategic efforts in defence manufacture and maintenance.
