At the Foreign Training Node in Pune, Maharashtra, the third iteration of the joint military exercise AUSTRAHIND got underway today. The exercise will take place between November 8 and November 21, 2024. Every year, Exercise AUSTRAHIND is held alternately between Australia and India. The same exercise was last carried out in Australia in December 2023.
A battalion from the DOGRA Regiment and 14 members of the Indian Air Force will mostly represent the 140-person Indian contingent. The 13th Light Horse Regiment of the 10th Brigade of the 2nd Division will represent the 120-man Australian Army contingent.
Through improved interoperability in conducting joint subconventional operations in semi-urban environments and semi-desert terrain, Exercise AUSTRAHIND aims to advance military cooperation between Australia and India in accordance with Chapter VII of the UN mandate. The exercise will emphasise joint planning, joint tactical drills, and a high level of physical fitness.
