After a difficult 39-day journey at sea, the Indian Naval Sailing Vessel Tarini, part of the Navika Sagar Parikrama II globe circumnavigation expedition, reached its first port of call at Fremantle, Australia, at around 1430 hours IST (1700 local time) on November 9. On October 2, Adm. Dinesh K. Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, kicked off the historic voyage from Goa.

From Goa, the ship has travelled 4900 nautical miles, traversing the Equator on October 16 and the Tropic of Capricorn on October 27. The Indian Navy team of Lt Cdr Dilna K and Lt Cdr Roopa A faced a variety of weather conditions during this 38-day nonstop journey, ranging from calm to severe. They faced sea conditions of 6 and winds of up to 40 knots. The group showed resiliency in the face of harsh circumstances by staying healthy and cheerful the entire way.

CNS has been closely monitoring the expedition’s progress and has received regular updates. The crew was completely engaged and committed to their task when the CNS talked with them while the ship was at sea on the eve of Diwali.

Dignitaries such as the Consul General of India in Perth, the Defence Advisor from Canberra, the Secretary of the Indian Navy Sailing Association (INSA), representatives from the Royal Australian Navy, members of the media, and Indian Naval veterans living in Australia extended a hearty welcome to INSV Tarini upon her arrival in Fremantle. The Tamil Association of Western Australia added a rich cultural flavour to the reception by performing classical music on the Parai and Kombu Tharai drums, greatly enriching the occasion.

The ambitious circumnavigation journey Navika Sagar Parikrama II makes port calls at four significant ports throughout the globe. The two-woman crew voyage promotes gender equality, sustainability, and international maritime cooperation while carrying on the Navy’s tradition of the INSV Tarini’s first circumnavigation. As an ambassador of India’s rich maritime legacy, the voyage also highlights India’s dedication to developing closer linkages with global nautical communities.

This milestone highlights the crew’s strength, talent, and resilience as INSV Tarini gets ready for its next leg and reinforces India’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable global involvement.
