A SUCCESSFUL INDIAN SEAFARER’S MEDICATION EVACUATION ON THE WESTERN SEABOARD BY NAVAL ALH
INN/Mumbai, @Infodeaofficial
Early on November 2, the Indian Coast Guard and the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai informed them of a critically ill stroke/CVA patient who needed medical evacuation (Medevac) from the MV Babylon in the Western Seaboard’s high seas. Last night, the 52-year-old Indian seafarer experienced a cerebrovascular accident that resulted in left-sided hemiplegia.
A Medical Officer and a Medical Attendant were aboard an Indian Navy ALH helicopter that was set up for the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) mission and took off from INS Shikra. The plane used EO/IR at long range to locate the merchant vessel despite the generally low visibility, and it successfully made a Medevac landing on board. Throughout the return flight on the ALH, the patient’s vitals were continuously examined.
The patient was securely moved to Kokilaben Hospital for additional care after arriving at INS Shikra in Mumbai.
