The exposition of Saint Francis Xavier’s sacred relics, a once-in-a-decade event that visitors and devotees from around the nation and beyond eagerly await, got underway in Goa on Thursday. Anil Couto, the Archbishop of Delhi, marked the beginning of the event with a Eucharistic liturgy in the Church of Bom Jesus, following weeks of preparations.
Bishop Anil Couto will be assisted in this ceremony by Father Felipe Neri and ten other bishops. Father Romeo Montero and a choir of over fifty singers and musicians took part in the opening ceremony. In a solemn ceremony during the exhibition, the saint’s relics are transported from the Basilica of Bom Jesus to the Se Cathedral in a special carriage.
Starting on November 21 and lasting for 45 days, the Holy Body exhibition will end on January 5.Spanish-born St. Francis Xavier served as a missionary in India and other Asian countries. It was believed that the saint’s body was incorruptible when he passed away on Shangchuan Island in China and was transported to Goa, India. Devotion to the saint has grown since then, as has people’s faith in him.
