Protests by Group 1 Candidates in Hyderabad Get Serious, Calling for GO No. 29 Cancellation and Exam Postponement
INN/Heyderabad, @Infodeaofficial
As Group-1 (Public Service Commission) applicants persisted in their protests today, calling for the repeal of Government Order (GO) No. 29 and the postponing of the Main Exam, tensions in Hyderabad grew. Frustrated by what they perceived as the government’s disdain for their concerns, the candidates organised a protest at Hyderabad’s Ashoknagar, which turned into a heated altercation between demonstrators and police.
Bandi Sanjay, the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, joined the demonstrators and was momentarily arrested by police as he tried to organise a march on the Secretariat. Sanjay accused the Congress Government of purposefully weakening reservation policies in his criticism of how they handled the problem. He brought up the supposed plot involving GO No. 29 and said, “The Congress is acting like the BRS government.”
Sanjay demanded that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy address the concerns raised by the group 1 candidates, questioning the government’s lack of response to their demands. Citing the implementation of the EWS reservation, he underscored the Modi government’s commitment to social justice and berated its reluctance to address the justifiable concerns of Group-1 applicants.
In the meantime, DGP Dr. Jitender gave the public the reassurance that strict security protocols have been implemented to guarantee a seamless and secure execution of the Group-1 Mains exams. He urged the demonstrators to be patient, stressing that the tests will be administered in accordance with the court’s directives.
Dozens of students started the protests on Wednesday night, calling for the exam to be postponed until the High Court makes a decision on the petitions contesting GO No. 29. The applicants contend that candidates from reserved categories will have less opportunities as a result of GO No. 29.
The government has instructed authorities to make sure the tests are well-prepared, and the Telangana High Court has rejected pleas requesting a postponement of the test. 31,383 candidates are expected to sit in the tests, which are due to take place from October 21 to October 27.
