Students enlightened on Article 370

Know what Article 370 is all about. It is important for you to know about Article 370 completely, said N Venkataraman, the senior advocate of Supreme Court.

‘Such important topics should not be limited to mere debate or discussion in schools or colleges,’ the senior advocate further said as he addressed the students from School of Law, School of Management, Social Sciences, Journalism and Mass Communication of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST).

Students dutifully listened to him as he told them to ask themselves as to why Kashmir was given special status and why it is removed now. The invalidation of the most debated article must be looked through five points, namely, self-determination, autonomy, plebiscite, Pakistan occupied Kashmir and international acceptance.

Most of the nations gave their nod to the decision, but a few nations like Pakistan, Turkey and Malaysia did not give their consent to the abrogation. However, UAE and a few Arabian countries have conferred their highest civilian award to the PM of India for having successfully abrogating Article 370, he said.

Founder chancellor of SRMIST T R Paarivendhar said he was present in the parliament when discussion on Article 370 was going on. The article was discussed at length. The lecture was more than a normal meeting as we bring eminent people to discuss and create awareness on important issues. More lectures like this will be held in future, he said.
